While 2017 has been a quiet year for Odd Future's Hodgy, he seems to be picking up steam as we reach the final quarter. Last week, Hodgy dropped a bouncy single called "July 4th," and now, he's come through with another loosie, this one called "Best Ideas." The atmospheric track is produced by Alvin Risk, who sets the tone with some tense, ambient synths and grounded drums. It's an understated instrumental, giving Hodgy ample space to leave an impression, showcasing a dexterous flow and some skillful lyricism. Ultimately, the track is solid, but does feel like a bit of a throwaway; that's not to say it's bad, but it does feel a little bit directionless, all things considered.
Still, that doesn't mean Hodgy isn't spitting some fire, and he delivers some nice bars like "I got my mind and my heart, I had to split em up, they're too close apart, twisted long roads." Give this one a listen, and sound off below. Are you feeling the latest from Hodgy?
Quotable Lyrics
Write the mirror till it's a clear smear,
There there, here nor there visions of where
Away from dispair, visited there, sat in a chair
Adapt in the air, sat in a Ferris Wheel, it feels like wheelchair
