If anyone wasn't sure about Cardi B's obsession with those famous Red Bottom shoes, they know now.
After shouting out the fashion legend's brand on her hit single "Bodak Yellow," Christian Louboutin says he's interested in meeting the rapper, even though he isn't quite sure who she is. In a new interview with The New York Times, Christian Louboutin was asked about the Bronx native and her inclusion of his brand in the lyrics to her track that has skyrocketed to her to hip-hop superstardom. "She's a rapper? This 'Yellow' song?" he asked the Times reporter. He later explained that his friend introduced to "Bodak," since he's not a big fan of rap music, nor does he have much of an idea about a given song's popularity with the public. While he says he doesn't get too caught up in "fame," he's curious about the woman behind America's hottest song.
"My job is creating beautiful shoes," Louboutin continued. "The rest has became what it became," referencing the increased visibility for his "bloody shoes," which have long been considered an upper echelon item in the fashion world. In fact, that's probably why Cardi has used the shoes as part of the rags-to-riches story not only in her lyrics, but in her personal life as well. According to another report published by Billboard earlier this year, the singer wears the footwear as a way of proclaiming her status in the hip-hop community. Her stylist, Kollin Carter, revealed that she often wears the luxury shoe as a "status symbol." "And in real life, before 'Bodak' blew up, she wore red bottoms because that’s what it means to make it in the Bronx," Carter summed up. "It’s a status symbol that the masses can relate to; everyday girls work hard and save up their money to have that shoe. Cardi did the same."
The rapper also allegedly owns 90 pairs of the shoes, so it's a status symbol that she isn't shy about flaunting to the public. The question now is probably what's next for Cardi, in terms of a music follow-up to "Bodak Yellow." Whatever it's going to be, you can get the hip-hop world will be eager to listen.
