Houston celebrates their first World Series title.

The Houston Astros are your 2017 World Series champions. Last night's Game 7 at Dodger Stadium wasn't as tightly contested as previous games in the 113th World Series, but the celebration will be just as sweet for the city of Houston.

The Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by the final of 5-1, marking the first World Series victory in franchise history. Houston's centerfielder, George Springer, who tied a World Series record with five home runs in the series, was named World Series MVP. Springer hit .379 (11-for-29) in the World Series with five home runs and seven RBIs. According to ESPN, his eight extra-base hits were the most ever in a World Series, and he is the first player to homer in four straight games within a single World Series.

Sports Illustrated's Ben Reiter actually predicted in 2014, after consecutive 100-loss seasons, that the Astros would be World Series champs in 2017, in a story that featured none other than George Springer on the cover.

After being handed his MVP award, Springer spoke about how the World Series victory was not only meaningful for the Astros franchise, but the city of Houston as a whole.

Per ESPN

"This is a dream come true and an honor," Springer said. "But it's about the Houston Astros tonight, our city, our fans. That patch on our chests really does mean something. We're coming home champions."

And the city of Houston can't wait to celebrate with them. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner says the city of Houston will honor the Astros with a parade on Friday in celebration of the team's first World Series championship.
