The "Greatest Rapper Of All Time" conversation is one of the genre's oldest debates, and with new talent emerging every day, it won't be settled anytime soon. Migos and Lil Yachty, two Atlanta acts signed to Quality Control, recently had a discussion about rap's GOAT in a segment with NME.
"Personally, I'd give it to 3K, man," said Offset, showing some love for the groundbreaking Atlanta emcee and one-half of Outkast, Andre 3000. "I like him that much as a rapper."
"Since you said 3K, Kendrick Lamar," Takeoff countered. The youngest man in the room, Lil Yachty, had to agree.
Meanwhile, Quavo wasn't quite ready to give Lamar the crown. "Kendrick is FIRE. If he keep at his pace, he could be the greatest rapper of all time."
"But look what he did already though?" suggested Takeoff. "You can't just jump in the game and be the greatest," Quavo argued.
For his pick, Quavo went with a New Yorker who has an undeniable longevity in the game, and happened to be the face on Yachty's t-shirt. "My mans Jay Z is the greatest rapper right now, bro," he said. "It took me a couple years to grow and understand that Jay is the guy. I didn't understand that shit when I was in 11th grade, 12th grade... No one saying the shit like Jay sayin' it."
