Gunna, an affiliate of YSL, comes ready-made with the Young Thug co-sign. It's benefitted him, as he's been able to collaborate with Atlanta legends like Gucci Mane. Last year, Gunna added his voice to the New Atlanta wave, dropping off his debut mixtape Drip Season. He later expanded the saga with Drip Season 2 (because rappers love their sequels), which featured guest appearances from Playboi Carti, Young Thug, and Offset. Now, Gunna has returned with Drip Or Down, a seven track EP expanding on the themes of his previous releases. This time around, Gunna opts for the solitary approach, with the sole feature being mentor Young Thug on "Don't Play With It."
The music is suited toward fans of that New Atlanta sound, with melodic flows and autotune-laden vocals. Honestly, the songs themselves are fine, but the engineering feels a little rushed, to be honest. While some might enjoy the raw sonic aesthetic, the project could probably benefit from a cleaner mix and some polished masters. Still, Gunna remains a promising young voice in a sea of talent, so why not take a listen and assess for yourself?
