While they might not making major waves in the mainstream, EarthGang have low key been enjoying a successful 2017 campaign. First, the duo made up of Doctur Dot and Johnny Venus was signed to J. Cole's "Dreamville" records, joining the ranks of frequent collaborator J.I.D, Bas, Cozz, Ari, Omen, J.I.D. & Lute. Not only that, but the group was also hit with some serious praise from Cole, who called them one of Atlanta's most relatable acts. With a dope label in the corner, EarthGang kicked off what was promised to be a trilogy series made up of three EPs.
The first installment, Rags, dropped on September 1st and featured appearances from J.I.D. and Mick Jenkins. Now, the duo have announced the second chapter, another EP titled Robots. The project will be dropping on October 20th, and EarthGang gave a special shout out to all the autumn children out there:" OCTOBER BABIES STAND UP."
While that project's still a few weeks away, fans of the Gang will be pleased to hear that they will be delivering the project's first single this Friday, October 6th. It's hard to predict what type of sound the duo will be going for this time around, but it stands to reason that there will be no shortage of clever lyricism and dope flows. In fact, whenever people complain about the lack of lyrics in modern hip-hop, they generally tend to forget about Earthgang's contributions to the game. Perhaps it's because the duo has yet to capture mainstream attention, but in all honesty, they're the closest equivalent to a modern-day Outkast one could ask for. Here's hoping that J. Cole's assistance can catapult EarthGang to the much deserved next level.
In the meantime, go listen to Rags to tide you over, and be patient - some new EarthGang is coming soon.
