Rome Fortune is a name you should probably know by now and if you don't, you should start getting familiar. He's been active in the scene for years at this point, experimenting with his sound and trying to take it as left as possible with each release. Today, he delivers another left-field effort with his latest single, "Kimono."
Rome Fortune's latest single takes a break from using the regional Atlanta sounds but instead, goes deeper into a more melodic, R&B style. It's a solid effort from Rome who flexes his singing abilities as well as his pen game. The smooth keyboard chords and slick piano progression at the introduction set things off smooth before the drums come in. However, the songs intensity rises by the first verse when the beat drops and kicks back in with epic horns. The contrast between the hook and the verse is almost reminiscent of Kanye West's "Blood On The Leaves," once the verses kick in.
The single is set to be featured on Rome Fortune's upcoming project, Pimpstar Popstar. The project is set to drop in early 2018 and Fortune is making sure everything is set up for an epic release. A few weeks back, he dropped off "Ten Four" off the project. That single contrasts to "Kimono" in terms of sound and overall delivery. "Ten Four" production was directly inspired by EDM while this one teeters towards R&B with bits of electronic music infused with it. Nonetheless, the variety of sounds he offers and his fearlessness to test the waters with each release is a reason why his upcoming project is one to look forward in the upcoming year. Hopefully, we'll hear more "Kimono" type records.
