During the latest episode of his OTHERtone podcast, Pharrell shared memories of listening to Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones Pt. II" with co-host Scott Vener and guest Lil Uzi Vert. Pharrell recalled the song playing the role of soundtrack to numerous fights he witnessed.
“I got a beating to that song before, I can remember that," Lil Uzi chimed in before going on to praise the song's ubiquity.
"It’s not even just hip-hop. In America, you can’t not hear that song," he said. "Like, even if you don’t know the name, if I play the song, you’ll be like, ‘Yeah, I know that song."
Later in the interview, Uzi discussed Marilyn Manson, the status of Luv is Rage 2, and hitting the studio with Pharrell. He called their collaboration "nuts."
“My first time meeting [Lil Uzi Vert] was the other day in the studio,” Pharrell added. “I’ve been sort of seeing him just do shit on the scene and he struck me as a guy that’s just not thinking about any kind of rules. Just doing what he likes, good, bad, or ugly. He don’t care, and that, I can relate to.”
