It was in August that we first premiered Skeme’s 1st Notice, the first installment in a trilogy series that doubles as something of a preview for listeners ahead of the California-bred rapper’s forthcoming album. Now holding true to his plan, Skeme has dropped off Second Notice, a solid continuation composed of three tracks—“Won’t Judge You,” “Solid,” and “High Notes”—and boasting no features, putting the Inglewood native's chops at the forefront.
“I wanted to do a three-part series just to show the versatility in songs made during this album-making process,” Skeme says. “These three songs felt best for me to put out at the moment to take a step away from the hardcore music I’m known for. I’m really trying to display and incorporate my songwriting.”
Second Notice arrives a compilation of consistently mid-tempo cuts that back up his chosen title as he steadily makes his way toward being a force in Hip-Hop. It was back in 2007 that Skeme made his debut with his Skeme of Things mixtape. Since then, he’s gone on to put out a flurry of projects that include the three parts of his Ingleworld series, and his most recent Paranoia of last year. Currently, we’re awaiting the arrival of his Ingleworld4Eva effort and his forthcoming Overdue album, set to feature appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, Chris Brown, and T.I. among others.
“I kind of just try not to work on something if I’m not thinking with that in mind,” Skeme noted in an interview earlier this year as he discussed his process in crafting both an ablum and mixtape. “If I was making stuff for Paranoia, I can’t treat it how I’ma treat Overdue, I gotta get a whole new process and once we get our had wrapped around what the project is, now we start coming up with titles and we start coming up with concepts and everything like that. Like I don’t wanna hear nothing from last year on this album.”
