Buffalo's Conway has come a long way in his career. Alongside his brother, Westside Gunn, the two made history in their city being the first artists to sign a major label distribution deal with Griselda. While he's nearing the release of his upcoming The Hoodlum Ball project, he drops off the latest single "Pawn Shop" featuring Jonathan Hay.
Conway embraces the struggles he's endured on his life on "Pawn Shop." The single has Conway reflecting on the things he had to do to make ends meet all while trying to pursue his career in rap and live his dreams to the fullest. "Remember my girl took her jewelry to the pawn shop/ just so we could eat and smoke/ now there's no more being broke," Conway raps on the first verse. The song was produced by Jonathan Hay x RX66 x Mani Ajami which samples Biggie's "Everyday Struggle." Hay also provides a powerful and emotional hook to the track. It's a different sound for Conway who typically is heard over more underground, boom bap type beats. This single has a bigger sound to it and also feels like it has the potential for some heavier radio play.
It's a dope teaser to what to expect on Conway's The Hoodlum Ball. The project is slated to drop in early December and will also have some notable emcees featured throughout the project. Thus far, he's announced The Game, MC Eiht, RiFF RAFF, Twista, Chino XL and KXNG Crooked will appear on the album. The project is an immediate follow up to his More Steroids project that he dropped last week.
Griselda's been making some pretty big moves lately. Westside Gunn, Conway and Benny teamed up with The LOX recently for their co-headlining "Key To Life" tour. The tour's set to wrap up in the next few days so it's looking like Conway will be back in the studio to wrap up this project.
Quotable Lyrics
Every morning, selling hard rock, palm glocks
When the drama pop, I seen my man take an arm shot
But the dude who shot him sleepin' in a long box
Whippin' deuces in one of my aunt's pots
