From the streets of Memphis, Blac Youngsta has come a long way. He's one of the most polarizing figures in modern hip hop who's never afraid to say what's on his mind. His honesty sometimes comes with backlash but it's the same trait that he carries in his music and makes him a distinguished personality in the industry. Earlier this year, he dropped his I'm Innocent mixtape which helped propelled his career to another level. He recently paid us a visit for our latest episode of On The Come Up where he talks to us about the mixtape, his relationship with Yo Gotti, working with Lil Yachty & more.
Blac Youngsta's career reached another height after he penned a deal with Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group. He says that the relationship with the fellow Memphis rapper came after he pulled up on him at a video shoot in their hometown. Blac Youngsta's energy was so vibrant that Yo Gotti couldn't help but link up with him.
"When I had met him, he just liked me. He just gravitated to the way I was moving. I was wild, I was turnt. I guess he just liked it. And the rest is history. Big homie, Gotti one of the realest in it like he just gave me a shot," he told us, "That man changed my life around. It wasn't about no money, he gave me the game."
He also mentioned that his connection to Lil Yachty initially came from an introduction from the Migos. From there, they exchanged numbers and developed a relationship that went past hip hop. Eventually, Yachty heard a demo that Youngsta did to "Hip Hoppers" and was adamant about hopping on the single.
"When I first did 'Hip Hopper,' I didn't do it for me. I did it for somebody else... Yachty be like 'it's a hit, you gotta send me that joint,'" he said, "I sent it to him, he did the verse and I took forever to do it, because I still didn't feel like it was a hit and when I finally did and put it out, look at it now."
Along with talking about Yachty and Yo Gotti, he also talks about the personas in hip hop, embarking on his first venue tour and growing as an artist.
