Lupe Fiasco is known as a socially conscious rapper, and that is the lane he chooses for himself, with songs like "Bitch Bad" making us aware of negative effects of using "bitch" so often in rap lyrics. So it may come as no surprise that Lupe is not feeling 2 Chainz' new single "Birthday Song," where he spits about wanting a "big booty ho" for his birthday.
While chopping it up with Jenny Boom Boom, the radio personality asked Lupe his take on the song, and he is not embracing "Birthday Song." Lupe says he's tired of hearing the same songs, he doesn't see a point in listening to them.
"You know, for me, hip-hop, I wanna hear stuff I haven't heard before. So like, 99% of the hip-hop that I hear these days is just the same. And, it's just kinda like, what am I listening to it for? And for me, that's keepin' it 100. It might be good, the beat is dope, the lyrics might be whatever on a technical thing, but at the end of the day it's like why am I listening to this?"
He says he doesn't want to be the "booty record" guy. "I don't wanna be the booty record go-to guy, be clear, the shoot-you-up-in-the-club guy, the nine-chains guy, I don't wanna be that guy. I wanna be social conscious, Mos Def, Nas, I'll stay in that lane, I'm good in my lane...I'll get slow money," Lupe says.
