Selena Gomez and The Weeknd caused quite a stir while in São Paulo this past weekend. The new couple was mobbed by adoring fans upon arriving at the airport, and the pandemonium escalated to dangerous levels when they were driving en route to The Weeknd's headlining performance at Lollapalooza Brasil.
Fans rushed into the middle of the street when they realized a car carrying The Weeknd and his superstar girlfriend was approaching the Lollapalooza venue. The car traveling right behind the two singers recorded the chaotic scene.
Security guards had to run up alongside the besieged car and push fans away so that the couple could drive away. A few fans even ended up on the ground in the middle of the road. No serious injuries were reported, but the footage makes it look like all the commotion could have ended in tragedy.
Though they may have given him a scare before the show, The Weeknd still made sure to put on a lights out performance when he took the Lollapalooza stage later that night. Watch below as he makes his grand entrance to "Starboy" in front of an electrified crowd.
Gomez was backstage for his whole set, and she was spotted on the festival's jumbotron, much to the audience's delight.
