Troy Ave says the Irving Plaza shooting changed his life for the worse.

The Irving Plaza shooting claimed the life of his best friend and now Crown Heights rapper Troy Ave says he's been fighting for his life ever since. He sat down with Fox 5 News to talk about his battle to stay out of jail.

Troy's out on bail with an ankle bracelet. He has been charged with attempted murder and weapons possession. He says a viral video that shows him shooting in the club doesn't tell the whole story.

"I would say to you that video doesn't show what's going on. I would love to talk with you more about it, but I'm facing a serious case-jail for 20 years,"he said.

Troy was supposed to perform onstage with T.I. that night. Apparently, shots were fired in the green room. Observers and the rapper's attorney claim he was defending himself. He was shot in both legs and two others were wounded. He says climbing stairs has proven difficult for him now. He is now suing Irving Plaza for not providing adequate security.

In January, popular podcast personality Darryl "Taxstone" Campbell, who long feuded with Troy Ave, was arrested on federal gun possession charges for bringing the weapon that killed Ronald "Banga" McPhatter, Troy's friend.

The BK emcee dropped a new album Dope Boy Troy this month. He has been doing shows, but not as many as before the shooting. He says police actively seek to undermine his career opportunities.

"I go do a show in North Carolina for CIWA and the police are phoning ahead, saying, 'Hey you got Try Ave booked at your venue? Are you kidding me? You know what this guy is about?"
