El Chapo has been back in the news lately after being extradited to the United States to answer for the many crimes he oversaw committed during his time as the head of the Sinaloa Cartel. While his trials in the United States are only just beginning, Univision has teamed up with Netflix to create a drama series based on the life of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
While the most sensational part of his story will be his multiple prison escapes, there should be plenty of material for Univision and Netflix to dig into since Guzman is accused of everything from murder to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Camila Jimenez Villa, President and Chief Content Officer of Fusion Media Group stated that, “this series pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating criminals of our time by combining the world-class reporting and insights from Univison News’ investigative team with an outstanding team of talented storytellers and producers.”
The show will air at some point in April on Univision before appearing on Netflix for streaming. A clear date has not been announced as of now.
