Earlier in the month, we were treated to Hustle Gang’s long-awaited and well-received compilation mixtape We Want Smoke. The result was an effort that that saw the best of T.I.’s label and its affiliates. Among those on the roster were none other than Young Dro, and wasting no time, the southern emcee has returned to deliver on his solo effort Da Real Atlanta.
10 tracks deep, it’s clear to see where this new project gets his title as Polo Dro rides in on clear influences of the early stages of trap muzik to which frequent collaborator and longtime friend T.I. lays his claim. Holding true to its essence, the track listing is a journey through the grit that Dro calls home in the southern metropolis.
You can catch a vibe to cuts like “Dirty Money,” “Gucci Mane,” “The Real A,” and the project’s single “Hell Is You Doing,” for which Dro already dropped a comical and politically-charged music video, featuring an impeached Donald Trump who has taken to life in the trap after a failed career in politics.
Dro’s signature gruff and quick-paced delivery takes center stage as no features are present on Da Real Atlanta. But given his showing on We Want Smoke, he has no trouble rising to the occasion in the presence of formidable company. Appearing on 11 of the 17 tracks of the previously-released collective effort, Dro certainly proves why he’s often the musical right hand of Hustle Gang ringleader T.I., taking full control of the mic whenever he gets the chance.
