Big K.R.I.T was hiding for the majority of 2017 but it seems like he's finally coming out of his shell to reveal what he's been working on. We've gotten a few joints from him this year but not nearly enough to keep us satisfied. Big K.R.I.T has solidified himself as an album artist over the years, delivering dense and cohesive bodies of work. Over the past two weeks, he dropped his first single in a while, "Confetti" and shortly after, delivered a short trailer that previewed some new music. Today, he returns with another record, "Keep The Devil Off."
"Keep The Devil Off" is Big K.R.I.T's banger that'll inevitably keep you filled with energy. The production has an old funk/gospel sample in it that's bound to get you moving. This one has more of an upbeat and uplifting sound to it. Throughout the record, Big K.R.I.T preaches a message of hope and tenacity, a message that's necessary right now considering the societal and political climate. The song dropped alongside a new video which was directed by Alex Nazari, who's also did the video for DJ Mustard & Travis Scott's "Whole Lotta Lovin'." The video features Big K.R.I.T in a static filled frame, wildin' out and singing along to the song.
With the release of this joint, it feels like Big K.R.I.T is about to drop something big. While he's yet to announce an album his manager tweeted in August that K.R.I.T had completed the project. Last week, he dropped a short video that featured him burying his old self. The video also featured some unheard music. When he tweeted out the video, he wrote "Those people who tried to bury you didn’t know you were a seed. THE REBIRTH." After taking a bit of a break from the rap game and returning back full force, this next project very well could be his rebirth.
Quotable Lyrics
We ain't cut from that cloth
I paid in gold what I bought
I ran circles 'round y'all
And never, ever, ever got caught.
