Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns have parted ways after three solid seasons together. Overall, Paul was able to lead the team to the NBA Finals back in 2021. However, the team ultimately lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. The last two seasons saw the Suns lose in the second round of the playoffs. With Paul on an expiring contract, it seemed pretty clear that the Suns were going to let him go. Over the weekend, he started being placed in trade talks concerning Bradley Beal, formerly of the Washington Wizards.
Subsequently, a trade was made on Sunday as Beal is now a Phoenix Sun. Meanwhile, Paul is headed to Washington, where he will likely be waived. From there, he will become an unrestricted free agent who can sign anywhere he likes. Overall, there are a ton of teams who are interested in his services. Among them are the Los Angeles Clippers, who boast the talents of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. This would definitely prove to be an amazing partnership, although there is no guarantee that it will take place.
Chris Paul Speaks
Today, Chris Paul was on Good Morning America where he spoke about his new book, Sixty-One. During this interview, he revealed that he actually found out about the trade with the Wizards while he was on the plane to New York. Although, Paul doesn't seem too worried about any of this. As he explained, the NBA is very unpredictable and you just have to roll with the punches. "In this league, anything can happen. You just figure out what’s next," he said. It is a good mentality to have, especially after moving around the league so much.
At this stage, no one truly knows what will happen to him. The Wizards certainly won't be keeping him around. Even if they did want to keep him, it is hard to see Paul wanting to stay there willingly. After all, the Wizards are in rebuild mode, and Paul wants to go out and win a championship.
