After securing a feature on Drake's acclaimed More Life playlist, U.K. rapper Giggs' verse on "KMT" at once earned him a legion of new fans and a swarm of vocal detractors. While "KMT" went on to spark a major controversy over a similarity in flow between Drake and XXXTENTACION (which no doubt helped catapult X into the mainstream eye), the single was an overseas commercial success, reaching number nine on the UK singles chart. In America, the track hit a respectable 48th spot on the Billboard charts. Not a bad introduction to the U.S. market, I'd say.
Now, on the eve of his new mixtape Wamp 2 Dem, Giggs' latest single has hit select international markets. The track, titled "Ultimate Gangsta," features none other than the Pretty Girls Like Trap Music scribe himself - 2 Chainz. Unfortunately, if you were hoping Wamp would deliver a coveted Drake feature, I'm afraid you might end up disappointed. However, the mixtape does feature UK rappers Dave Santan (who is dope as hell), D Double D, and Footsie, as well as U.S. heavyweights Young Thug.
As for the track itself, it seems to follow the traditional UK up-tempo vibe, using nightmarish strings to conjure up an ominous vibe. Gigg's baritone delivery is never rushed, and his words carry an impressive sense of weight. 2 Chainz closes out the track, bringing his A-game and paying respect to the thickness of Nicki Minaj with some clever bars. Near the end, a beat switch kicks in, providing Tity Boi with a haunting backdrop to deliver some bars - "check the stats man, see what they do to a black man, I'm still undefeated even when I'm shootin' jump shots for some money in a trash can."
Overall, "Ultimate Gangster" is the collaboration you never knew you wanted. Stay tuned for Wamp 2 Dem, dropping at midnight tonight.
Quotable Lyrics
Yeah, that man, I'm just runnin' up a sack man
In the backseat with my feet on the partition simply relaxin'
Time to put a line between me and you, call that a fraction
Thinkin' I don't know how to act? Shit, I'm about the action
