Madlib recently previewed unreleased songs he has with Freddie Gibbs and the late Mac Miller during a performance in Sydney, Australia. Later in the show, the legendary producer also hinted at having music with Fly Anakin and Meyhem Lauren on the way.
One of the tracks is titled “John Gotti Karate” and stems from Madlib and Gibbs’ forthcoming collaborative album, Montana. The other, “Nosy Neighbour,” features the appearance of Mac Miller. Madlib says the song will appear on their long-awaited joint effort, Maclib.
Freddie Gibbs In Concert With Madlib
Freddie Gibbs previously mentioned having another project with Madlib on the way during an interview with XXL in January. “I’ma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for,” he said at the time. “Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy. I’m making the best music of my life, so it’s no reason to stop. And I’m the king of R&B, so I gotta do that album as well.”
Gibbs and Madlib previously collaborated on the 2019 album, Bandana, as well as its predecessor, 2014's Piñata. Bandana was met with widespread critical acclaim and peaked at No. 21 on the US Billboard 200. It features guest appearances from Pusha T, Killer Mike, Anderson .Paak, Yasiin Bey, and Black Thought.
Madlib Plays Tracks With Freddie Gibbs & Mac Miller
While Madlib hasn't given a release date for the Mac Miller collaboration, he remarked that he was applying finishing touches during an appearance on Sway in the Morning in March. “Right now, I’m finishing up the Mac Miller album, Planet Asia album, Erykah Badu album, different stuff,” he said. The project has been rumored to be in the works for many years.
