UK's grime scene has been bubbling for years now. Artists like Skepta, Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy, Wiley, Giggs and more helped the genre reach past the UK. While the majority of those artists just listed are OGs in the scene, their work has helped the younger generation get more exposure in North America. An artist that's really been garnering attention throughout the States is AJ Tracey. The West London MC has been bubbling up in the UK and is gearing up to make a mark globally. As he gears up to drop his new EP this Friday, he unleashes his latest single "Quarterback."
"Quarterback" is AJ Tracey's long-awaited new single. He initially unveiled the single during Julie Adenuga's Beats1 radio show a few days ago and dropped the single online shortly after it's premiere. The rapper's been opening his shows throughout the summer with the song and his fans have been really messing with it, even singing it back to him prior to the song's release. "Quarterback" is a perfect example of AJ Tracey's ability to bring both grime and hip hop together. The song was produced by Keanu Beats who was behind Migos' "What's The Price." While Keanu Beats brings more of a trap sound to the table, AJ Tracey balances it out by still maintaining his grime style in his flow and bars.
"Quarterback" serves as his first single off his upcoming EP Secure The Bag! The project is set to drop this Friday and will also feature appearances from Denzel Curry, JME, 67 and Craig David. Over the past years, his been one of the most promising voices within the new generation of grime artists. With his EP dropping this week, it's exciting to see where the project takes his career next.
Quotable Lyrics
Turn up, finesse the chick and I'm gone
I get head and keep all the lights on
No wasteman can jump on my song
They thought I would flop and they're wrong
