Football is officially back. While the NFL season won't kick off until next Thursday, featuring a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, college football is already underway and will be in full swing tomorrow, September 2nd.
Last night, the #2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes kicked off their season in Bloomington, Indiana with a decisive win against the Hoosiers, thanks to quarterback J.T. Barrett's four total touchdowns. Indiana actually led 14-13 at the end of the second quarter but the Buckeyes dominated in the second half behind Barrett's 304 passing yards and freshman running back J.K Dobbins' 181 yards on the ground. They went on to win easily, 49-21, covering the 21-point spread in the process.
Ohio State will face a much tougher opponent next Saturday when they take on the #7 Oklahoma Sooners at Ohio Stadium at 7:30pm ET. That game will be aired on ABC.
With a full slate of college football games on deck for tomorrow, it's only right that we take a look at some more notable games to watch out for before the NFL teams get going next week.
At 3:30pm tomorrow on ABC and the WatchESPN app, #11 Michigan Wolverines will take on #17 Florida Gators at AT&T Stadium in Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. It's worth noting, the Gators have suspended 10 players for their season opener, including star wide receiver, Antonio Callaway. Callaway and six others were suspended a few weeks ago "for making improper charges on their student IDs at the school bookstore and then selling those items for cash."
The game that everyone is looking forward to in the college football opening weekend is no doubt the showdown between #3 Florida State and the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The battle of the ACC's and SEC's elite will go down at Mercedes-Benz in Atlanta at 8:00pm and will also be aired on ABC.
While we await those highly anticipated games, take a look at some of #2 Ohio State's highlights from last night's win over Indiana.
