It looks like rising St. Louis rapper Smino is a big fan of memorable dates. Back in March, he decided to pay homage to his hometown area code of 314 by releasing his debut album, blkswn, on March 14, aka 3/14. Having remained relatively quiet since then however, Smino decided to change all that yesterday (10/2) in celebration of his 26th birthday and treat fans to a new song for the hell of it called “Sorbet.”
“Shout to Akenya fa sending me dis beautiful voicemail dis mornin...shout to errbody who ever put somebody on lil ol me. i love you MUHFUCKAS. dis me jus havin fun wit it...hope yall enjoy, dance, smile to it. kuz nigga i do. okay so lets get technical…” he said In the song’s description.
Going in over production from Seattle’s Sango, Smino shows off his rapid fire flow & slick wordplay, while reflecting on his come up in St. Louis and rapping about living everyday like it’s his birthday or a "church day," proclaiming “carpe diem” in the process. Highlighted by its “tasteful” & feel good vibes, “Sorbet” is another strong addition to the St. Louis rapper’s growing catalogue of records. As he said, don’t expect this to be found on any upcoming project or anything, but hopefully there’s still one on the way regardless though.
For now, take a listen to this new birthday treat and let us know what you think in the comments (below). If you wish to see Smino live in person you’re in luck, the Midwest rapper is currently on the road with TDE’s first lady SZA for her “CTRL” Tour. Peep tour dates right here if interested.
Included (below) is our recent interview with Smino from this past Spring where he touched on some of his high school music shenanigans & more with Damon Campbell.
Quotable Lyrics:
Shawty you taste like sorbet
Beat it til' it's sore, bae (Ooh)
Told em we can soar bae
Told em we can soar to the moon
Shawty you taste like sorbet
Beat it til' it's sore bae, (ooh)
Told em' we can soar bae
Told em' we can- soar!
