Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is waiting for a ruling to be announced from Harold Henderson regarding the appeal of his six-game suspension. But in the meantime, Elliott and the NFLPA have already filed suit against the league in an attempt to overturn any forthcoming suspension ruling from Henderson.
The petition filed on behalf of Elliott alleges that there was a "League-orchestrated conspiracy by senior NFL executives .... to hide critical information -- which would completely exonerate Elliott," according to ESPN.
Furthermore, the NFL's director of investigations, Kia Wright Roberts, testified that she interviewed Zeke's accuser, Tiffany Thompson, and determined that Elliott should not be suspended at all.
Per ESPN,
"According to the filing, Kia Wright Roberts, the NFL's director of investigations, testified Tuesday that she was the only NFL employee who interviewed the running back's accuser, Tiffany Thompson, during the investigation and that she would not have recommended discipline for Elliott based on what she found."
"Roberts told Lisa Friel, who investigates domestic violence cases for the NFL, of her views, but was never allowed to convey them to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell or the "independent advisors.""
According to the NFLPA, Roberts concluded, after reviewing all evidence, that Thompson "was not credible in her allegations of abuse." Additionally, the petition claims that Ezekiel Elliott were denied the rights of a fair procedure when Henderson declined the NFLPA's request to have Tiffany Thompson testify.
While the ultimate goal of the lawsuit is to have the ruling and suspension completely vacated, at the very least, the court could grant Ezekiel Elliott an injunction to play in the Cowboys' Week 1 matchup against the division rival New York Giants next Sunday night.
Similar to the Tom Brady "Deflategate" case that went to court, there's a possibility that the court waits until next offseason to hear the case, which would allow Zeke to play in the upcoming season.
