Rest In Peace, Clara "Claire" Gomez.

When it comes to releases from the Griselda camp, 2019's WWCD stands out as a benchmark achievement. Not only was it among the group's final fully collaborative releases (so far), but it set the stage for their current dominance in the 2020s decade, as well as exemplifying what made the crew so special before. However, tragic news struck fans and the group alike recently, as Clara "Claire" Gomez, the Buffalo woman whose likeness graced the album cover, passed away at age 58. Moreover, a GoFundMe page was established to cover the costs of the burial on Wednesday (May 24).

""Hi my name is Joe, I am the nephew to Clara Gomez aka 'Claire' in Buffalo," the fundraiser's description indicates. "I am fundraising so she can be laid to rest close to her sister (my mother). Like the family wants. I want to thank everyone for their condolences and for aiding my Aunt over the years. I know she was a thorn in everyone's side at times but the love for her from everyone really means a lot to our family. Please donate if you can if not please at least share this to someone you know. Every bit helps."

Westside Gunn's Donation To Claire Gomez's Funeral

The next day, Westside Gunn posted pictures on Twitter of his $10,000 donation to the effort. "BURY MY BABY IN STYLE #RIPCLAIRE the LEGEND," he wrote. In an earlier post, he first acknowledged Claire's loss. "My fav Buffalo Kid You’ll be Loved Forever #IMMORTAL #RIPCLAIRE," the MC expressed. According to the Buffalo News, Claire passed away after an SUV struck her on Tuesday night (May 23). Reportedly, the vehicle's driver hit her while trying to escape from another car, chasing and shooting at them. Furthermore, the suspected gunman received charges of second-degree possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Meanwhile, the Flygod is known to pay tribute to fallen friends and close ones, however famous or unknown they might have been. For example, he recently hinted at honoring the late great Virgil Abloh on his next album. & Then U Pray For Me will release June 23 and Virgil designed the album cover, as he did its antecedent Pray For Paris. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Gabriel treasures the crossover between his native reggaetón and hip-hop news coverage, such as his review for Bad Bunny’s hometown concert in 2024. But more specifically, he digs for the deeper side of hip-hop conversations, whether that’s the “death” of the genre in 2023, the lyrical and parasocial intricacies of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle, or the many moving parts of the Young Thug and YSL RICO case. Beyond engaging and breaking news coverage, Gabriel makes the most out of his concert obsessions, reviewing and recapping festivals like Rolling Loud Miami and Camp Flog Gnaw. He’s also developed a strong editorial voice through album reviews, think-pieces, and interviews with some of the genre’s brightest upstarts and most enduring obscured gems like Homeboy Sandman, Bktherula, Bas, and Devin Malik.
