Young Thug dropped his highly anticipated "singing album" Beautiful Thugger Girls (also known as EBBTG) last Friday, June 16th. The date was already an important one in the world of hip-hop, as it would have been the late Tupac Shakur's 46th birthday. According to Thug, it was no accident.
"I dropped E.B.B.T.G on 2PAC'S bday because I'm the #newPAC," the Atlanta wrote on Twitter Saturday night. "I feel like I am the thug he didn't get to become #SoImGoinFinishWhatHeStarted."
While Thug is far from the first rapper to compare himself to Pac, aligning oneself with one of hip-hop's most beloved figures can tend to be divisive, especially when coming from an artist like Thug who causes debate anyway. Twitter users began battling in the mentions of the tweet almost immediately, and we won't be surprised if the argument continues throughout the day. It seems that rap purists and Thugger stans are pretty evenly matched on the platform.
