Black Mirror Season 6 is nearly here.

Black Mirror went from a Channel 4 dark satire to an international sensation. Beginning life as "that show where the Prime Minister fucked a pig", Black Mirror grew in scope and star power after being acquired by Netflix in 2015. After joining the streaming platform, the stars got bigger but some of the social messages were lost. Scathing messages about the shallowness of politics and the rabid nature of reality television became broader messages such as "social media fickle" and "cyberbullying bad".

However, the show has been off the air since 2019. The final episode released, Rachel, Jack, And Ashley Too, tackled AI and parasocial relationships with a special guest appearance from Miley Cyrus. It was part of a three-episode Season 5 which also included appearances from Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, and Topher Grace. A sixth season was revealed to be in the works in 2022. However, very little has been revealed about the show until now.

"Black Mirror" Season 6 Packed With Star Power

On April 26, Netflix released the first teaser for Season 6, which is absolutely packed with star power, violence, and cynical social commentary. Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) appears to star in an episode set aboard a space station. Meanwhile, Zazie Beetz (Atlanta, Deadpool 2) is seen wielding both a dial-up connection and a telephoto lens. Last year, Beetz teased her episode, saying “I wouldn’t say my character is having a lot of fun,” she said. “But I think there’s a really great tongue-in-cheek dark element to it, premonition kind of element. The mirror reflecting back on us.” Other stars seen include Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Rory Culkin, Paapa Essiedu, and Salma Hayek. Netflix also released a film follow-up to the BBC's Luther earlier this year, seeing Idris Elba return to his TV role.

No story details have been released as of yet. However, while speaking with tudum.com, creator Charlie Brooker told fans to brace themselves for the unexpected.

“I’ve always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar ‘Black Mirror’ tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is.”

No release date has been set. However, the trailer ends with the promise that the show will be coming to Netflix in June. Be sure to check HotNewHipHop for any future details we learn about the show.
