Kevin Garnett has seen and done it all in the NBA. The former NBA champion is now wondering if the NBA continue to grow its audience. The former Minnesota Timberwolves star has an excellent idea for the NBA. Garnett believes it is the perfect time for the NBA to introduce a rap battle. Many of today's stars even have recorded albums. Including Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard. However, Garnett's proposal doesn't just involve bragging rights. But a cool cash prize as well.
On a recent episode of KG Certified, Garnett went into detail on his latest idea. “I think it’s over 20 rap labels in our league owned by players that you wouldn’t even know… I’m telling Adam Silver, on the Friday night right after the Rookie game, million-dollar purse. You gon’ take 10 rappers they gon’ sign up themselves [and] you gon’ do four rounds and then two at the end and then one win the million.” The proposed cash prize would definitely bring participants to the battle.
Kevin Garnett Wants Rap Battle For All-Star Weekend
Garnett's idea is a fresh concept that could bolster viewership for the All-Star Weekend. The weekend is filled with plenty on the court events. Including the celebrity game, three-point shootout, skills challenge, and dunk contest. Adding an element that brings a culture to the weekend would be exciting for fans of both rap and basketball. Also, seeing the potential of an NBA star missing the mark during his set would be can't miss television. The idea would also give fans another reason to make the trip to All-Star Weekend.
Garnett's latest idea is a great thought in improving the relationship between musicians and athletes. Often times, musicians are the ones sitting in the front row. While athletes dream of being famous musicians. Maybe the league could even bring in stars of the rap game to be celebrity voters on the rap challenge.
