Fat Joe is teaming up with Busta Rhymes, French Montana, and Rick Ross to perform in Washington D.C. on Thursday in an effort to raise awareness for transparency in hospital billing. The event is being organized by Power to the Patients, which has partnered with Joe in the past. Joe also stars in a public service announcement for the organization that they released last year.
Joe spoke about the need for healthcare reform and his decision to work with Power to the Patients during a recent statement provided to The Hill’s In The Know. “Our healthcare system needs comprehensive reform and I remain committed to using my platform to work alongside Power to the Patients and give a voice to the voiceless,” the 52-year-old told the outlet. “We must demand accountability from hospitals and insurers, so people can get a transparent understanding of the cost of their medical bills and make more informed financial decisions on healthcare services.” He further continued: “With prices hidden, oftentimes, the bills are not even consistent at the same hospital,” adding, “It’s tearing families apart.”

Joe also worked with the Power to the Patients campaign in February 2023 for a Super Bowl public service announcement. In doing so, he advocated for change in the healthcare system. In a statement posted to the organization's website, Fat Joe adds: "Knowing prices is the only way we will be able to lower our costs in healthcare. So, we have to fight for the people. We all have to talk to our politicians and talk to everybody. It’s in the law that hospitals and insurers need to post prices and we all need to know this. I teamed up with Power to the Patients to educate our communities on their rights and help put an end to this injustice.”
TMZ Hip Hop reports that Joe's trip to D.C. will also feature various meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill as well as a news conference with members of Congress to address the issue. The effort comes ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
