In the SNL writers' room, anything is fair game when it comes to President Donald Trump, who is the subject of a mocking impression courtesy of Alec Baldwin every Saturday night. However, one writer recently took it too far when she went after Donald's 10-year-old son, Barron. On the day of his father's inauguration, SNL writer Katie Rich made Barron the subject of a twisted hypothetical, as she tweeted, "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter."
Due to that tweet, Rich has been indefinitely suspended from her job at SNL, as reported by Deadline earlier today. The offensive tweet has since been deleted, as have all of her other tweets save for an apology that she recently posted. It reads, "I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry."
During the inauguration, Barron was the butt of many a Twitter joke due to his facial reactions and apparent boredom with his father's big day. Hillary Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, recently went on Facebook in order to demand that Barron be left alone and allowed to "be a kid." She also noted that "standing up for every kid" might require opposing certain policies proposed by Barron's dad.
