"Rihanna doesn’t give a fuck about anyone around her ... But she’s not rude -- she’s comfortable."

After some delays, SZA's CTRL LP finally has a release date. The TDE singer's interview with Billboard reveals that her new project will arrive February 3rd. On top of the reveal, SZA spoke on a few subjects with the publication, including her recent work with Rihanna.

SZA was featured on the opening track Rih's eighth studio album ANTI, and she also co-wrote the track. "She wanted to work with me, and I played some jams that I was working on for myself, and it went from there," SZA said of how the collaborsation came about. "Rihanna doesn’t give a fuck about anyone around her. She’s in her own space at all times. But she’s not rude -- she’s comfortable. As a shy person, that was something cool to witness."

The singer, who recently released teh sparing "Drew Barrymore" single also revealed that legendary producer Rick Rubin (who has been known to credit himself as a "reducer") taught her about scaling back her arrangements "I had this mentality that ‘more is more’ -- more reverb, more background [vocals]," she said. "I played him a bunch of songs, and he would tell me, ‘The more you take away from any piece, the more room you create for everything else to be beautiful and grow.’ I never felt that before, the editing urge. Once you strip everything down, you’re forced to say something."

Read the rest of the interview, in which SZA speaks about the influence her sleepaway camp had on the album and what she learned from listening to her own recordings, on Billboard.
