Few things can people excited like Star Wars, and today is one of those days. Winter 2017 marks the release date of the next Star Wars movie, and the franchise has just revealed its official title via their Instagram account. The full title for Star Wars Episode VIII is Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
We’re about to get into some spoilers, so avert your eyes if you still haven’t seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The title suggests the movie will focus on where the plot last left off, with Rey meeting up with a weathered and wizened Luke Skywalker. The question remains – who is The Last Jedi? Is it Luke, is it Rey? Fans will have to wait until December 15 of this year to find out.
2016 saw the release of Star Wars: Rogue One, a film not part of the new trilogy. After this year’s The Last Jedi, 2018 will have the young Han Solo movie, featuring Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. The late Carrie Fisher will also reprise her role in The Last Jedi as she had already finished filming before she passed away, but she will likely be killed off in some way since Disney assured fans they wouldn’t CGI her into the final film.
