While several artists have turned down a spot on the XXL Freshman Cover, it is typically seen as a highly coveted honor. Buffalo veteran Westside Gunn shared his thoughts on the value of "Freshman" stamp on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, seemingly in response to fans surprised he didn't make the list.
"Y'all Really thought I wanted Freshman attached to my name???" he wrote. "MF IM A LEGEND!!! let the young boys enjoy [their] time we here to stay."
Gunn is a staunch traditionalist compared to the majority of this year's Freshman Class. He signed a distribution deal with Shady Records in March; he released his most recent album Riots on Fashion Avenue in February. He spoke on his deal with Shady in a brand-new interview with Peter Rosenberg.
