NBA Youngboy is about to achieve something pretty huge for an artist his age. The 23-year-old Baton Rouge native is on track to be the youngest rapper to have 100 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His first single, "Untouchable," charted at number 95 in 2017. Since then, Youngboy has managed to chart 97 more times, either as a lead artist or a feature. The rapper would be in good company. Some of the other rappers to achieve this are Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z.
NBA Youngboy, also known as Kentrell Gaulden, has gained a massive following with his music. With singles like "Outside Today," "No Smoke," and "38 Baby," the rapper has made a name for himself in the rap game, despite facing challenges. Youngboy frequently teams up with other iconic names in the industry. Most recently, he tapped Nicki Minaj to feature on his single "WTF." The single comes from his upcoming album, Don't Try This At Home, due out on April 21.
Youngboy Records His Hits At Home
It may not seem that way given how many singles he releases, but NBA Youngboy has been on house arrest since 2021. The rapper is currently living a relatively calm life in Utah, where he has an in-house recording studio. Youngboy was arrested on federal gun charges several years ago and has been in legal trouble ever since. As such, he is doing all he can to earn his freedom. House arrest does stop him from making public appearances, but that doesn't mean he won't be pulling out all the stops to promote his new album.
It was reported today that NBA Youngboy is dropping $200k on a release party that he won't even be able to attend. The rapper also spoke about the meaning of his album title recently. “Entertainment and reality is very different. What I do think, some of the entertainers make their entertainment their reality also,” Youngboy said. “A lot of people who you see today, that’s 100% who they is… But I guarantee you bro, the majority of them… nah.” What do you think of Youngboy's new milestone?
