Gilga's next project is expected to be a short film directed by Malia Obama. While it will be her directorial debut, former president Barack Obama's daughter previously earned a writing credit on Swarm. Of working with Malia, Glover recently told GQ: “The first thing we did was talk about the fact that she will only get to do this once. You’re Obama’s daughter. So if you make a bad film, it will follow you around." Glover didn't reveal any further details about the project.
He also discussed Gilga as a whole with the outlet. Glover explained that he wants to fund projects that he believes in and will match the quality of that produced by "rich kids." “Rich kids don’t do shit for money. They do things based on if it’s gonna make them happy. Like, that’s really what I realized this last go-around. I made a lot of money, and it wasn’t that I was depressed or anything like that, but I realized it’s the people I was around that mattered,” he said. “People don’t get quality anymore and they need a filter. Gilga is a perfect filter for that shit.” Glover also vented his frustration with artists like Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino receiving funding for projects that are good, but not always profitable. He wants more artists to be given that opportunity.
