The Canadian rapper's attorneys asked for a continuance to respond to the prosecution's dismissal of a new trial, and said deliberations will now take place on Monday, April 17.

In a surprising but understandable turn of events, the motion for Tory Lanez to receive a retrial was postponed by court authorities by another week, which was set to enter deliberation on Monday (April 10). Now, both sides of the case will wait until Monday, April 17 to discuss the motion. Moreover, this resulted from a request from the Canadian rapper's legal team for continuance to add to their retrial motion. While it's unclear how this will shape up in the grand scheme of things, it does give each side more time to prepare their arguments. For Lanez, this means a shot at a second chance, whereas the prosecution affirmed his already proven guilt.

Furthermore, said prosecutors recently blasted the retrial motion as they believe it "lacks substance." To elaborate, they believe that Tory's defense is claiming wrongdoing where there was none, whether for not allowing him to testify or including improper evidence. However, the prosecution remarked that Tory Lanez failed to address these reservations in court when he and his team had the chance. Therefore, court authorities are within the right to uphold due process in his trial.

Tory Lanez Hearing For Retrial Pushed Back A Week

Regardless of the legal jargon involved, this could be a big development for the 30-year-old as his team attempted to prove his innocence. Also, they addressed certain misconceptions about the rapper. For example, his attorney recently explained his tattoo of an AK-47, which apparently painted him in a negative light in court. Furthermore, the attorney maintained that said body art gives tribute to Tupac Shakur, and even took it a step further by comparing the two. "Mr. Shakur used his music and tattoos to discuss socio-political issues affecting the black community in the nineties,” he reportedly stated in a legal filing. “Yet, he, too, was misunderstood."

Still, many stand by the fact that Lanez is responsible for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, and blasted his actions to defend himself since then. While many are still on the fence or choose not to get into it, this battle for retrial in court could be Tory's last stand. With that in mind, many wonder if he already sacrificed his place in the industry and the public eye if this retrial clears his name.
