Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Masters with an injury.

Tiger Woods withdrew from The Masters on Sunday after finishing the first seven holes of his third round, citing a reaggravated plantar fasciitis. As he finished in downpour rain on Saturday, Woods struggled to walk without limping. He was 6-over par through his first seven holes of that round. He finished 22 strokes behind the leader at the time, Brooks Koepka. Play was suspended at 3:15 PM, ET due to the conditions.

“Due to injury, Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from The Masters Tournament after completing seven holes of his third round,” The Masters announced in a statement. Woods later confirmed the news on Twitter as well. “I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,” he wrote. “Thank you to the fans and to The Masters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”

Woods played in three major championships last year after being seriously injured in a car crash in February 2021. He damaged his right leg, foot, and ankle, making it unclear whether he could ever return to competitive golf. At the 2022 Masters, he finished 47th. He later missed the cut at the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews and withdrew at the PGA Championship. Back in February, he competed at the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club and finished tied for 45th.

Since returning, he's said that he will only play in major championships and one to two other events per year. After his second round at The Masters, Woods remarked, "I've always loved this golf course, and I love playing this event. Obviously, I've missed a couple with some injuries, but I've always wanted to play here. I've loved it." The PGA Championship is scheduled for May 18-21 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. Woods hasn't confirmed whether he intends to play in that event.
