The Jacksonville Jaguars' 22-year old defensive end, Dante Fowler, was reportedly arrested in St. Petersburg, Florida last night on charges of simple battery and mischief, after he punched a man and through his belongings into a lake.
According to a statement by the St. Petersburg police, obtained by Deadspin,
"Fowler was driving in the Trellis at the Lakes apartment complex, 11150 4th St. North, at about 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, when a man walking in the complex made a comment about Fowler’s driving."
"Fowler got out of his car and exchanged words with the man. Fowler hit the man, knocked off his glasses and stepped on them. He then took the victim’s grocery bag, with recently purchased liquor, and threw it in a lake."
He was reportedly booked for the misdemeanor charges at 9:02 p.m. last night and released at 1:43 a.m. on $650 bond.
The Jags released the following statement,
"The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and are currently gathering more information," the Jaguars said. "The team has been in communication with Dante. No further comment will be made at this time."
Fowler, who stands 6'3 and weighs 267 lbs, was selected third overall in the 2015 NFL Draft and recorded 32 tackles and four sacks for the Jaguars last season.
