Young Thug may not have freedom right now, but he has friends on the outside supporting him. The rapper was arrested last May. He was been accused of trying to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He was also accused of participating in criminal street gang activity. Additionally, Young Thug faced additional charges including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of prohibited weapons, among others. These charges were part of a larger 56-count grand jury indictment which names 28 people involved with the YSL "criminal street gang," including fellow rapper Gunna. As many know, Gunna has been freed, but Young Thug's case is still awaiting trial.

Young Thug is a rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from Atlanta. He first gained recognition in 2013 with his mixtape 1017 Thug and has since released numerous projects, including his debut studio album So Much Fun in 2019. Young Thug's music is popular in large part due to his singular style, which features both singing and rapping in a high-pitched, melodic flow. He has collaborated with a range of artists across various genres, including Future, Travis Scott, and Camila Cabello.

Young Thug's Friends Call For His Release

In an Instagram post on Metro Boomin's account, several of Young Thug's friends posed with a "Free Young Thug" shirt. Don Toliver, Metro Boomin, and A$AP Rocky are all included in the picture. The caption reads, "Free Jeff till Jeff free!!" Jeff is Young Thug's government name. Whether or not "Jeff" will be free remains to be seen. It isn't all bad, though.

Although the rapper originally could have faced up to 65 counts, he was only charged with 8. The charges include conspiracy to violate the RICO act, participation in criminal street gang activity, and possession of both marijuana and codeine with intent to distribute. Those certainly aren't light charges. Young Thug was briefly allowed freedom recently to attend his sister's funeral. Even if the rapper does win in court, the result is likely still somewhat far off. Jury selection is still underway and has been hit with several roadblocks. Most recently, a potential juror was jailed for filming the court room. Here's hoping Young Thug can come out on top once the trial begins.
