The New England Patriots have been the greatest NFL franchise of the last 25 years. The organization has six Super Bowl victories in that span. Which is the most any single team has in the league. During this run, the Patriots have been led by one man. That man is head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick is known for his no-nonsense approach to the game. The "Patriot Way" is often how Belichick's style of coaching is described by his current and former players.
One thing that has made the Patriots so successful during this period has been Belichick's decision-making. Belichick isn't afraid of making tough decisions. For instance, benching a Pro Bowl QB like Drew Bledsoe for an unproven backup in Tom Brady was a good call. Now it seems like Belichick could be looking for a change at QB again. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Patriots have been listening to offers on starting QB Mac Jones.
Is Mac Jones Being Replaced?
Jones hasn't been the player New England had hoped for when they drafted him in the first round back in 2021. However, the former Alabama QB has been a part of a tough rebuild with the Patriots. After Brady's departure in 2020, the New England Patriots have yet to find their footing. The team hasn't been to the playoffs since Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay. A franchise that is used to playing in deep January is now reconsidering just how to get there.
Jones may not be the answer in New England. However, the team doesn't believe that former league MVP Lamar Jackson is either. The Patriots reportedly dropped out of the Jackson sweepstakes last week. But with today's news, one has to wonder if the Patriots may soon re-enter discussions for the Baltimore QB. What do you believe the Patriots will do at QB? Does Mac Jones start the season in New England? If not Mac, then who will line up under center for Belichick? Let us hear your predictions in the comment section below.
