As the fourth anniversary of the Safdie Brothers' Uncut Gems approaches, film fanatics are raving over an exciting tidbit of gossip from within the industry. After tapping The Weeknd to play himself in their Adam Sandler-led thriller, the creatives may be working with yet another recording artist in their upcoming project – Megan Thee Stallion. According to Deadline, the Houston-born rap diva may be joining the cast, alongside the Grown Ups star, who many are eager to see work with the Safdies once again.
Many of the project's details remain under wraps at this time, though we do know it's been produced for Netflix and will take place "in the world of sports memorabilia." Safdie siblings Josh and Benny wrote the screenplay, which has incredibly high expectations following the sweeping (albeit snubbed) sensation that was Uncut Gems. While Thee Stallion is best known for her tantalizing twerking and braggadocious bars, this rumoured upcoming role certainly won't be her first venture into acting.
Megan Thee Stallion's Acting Resume Continues to Grow
In the world of television, she's previously appeared in Disney+'s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, as well as the STARZ stripper drama, P-Valley. In addition to that, we've also seen Thee Stallion alongside industry veterans like Christina Hendricks and Matthew Lillard in NBC's Good Girls. As far as films go, the world is anxiously awaiting the "Hot Girl Summer" hitmaker's theatrical debut in A24's upcoming musical comedy, F*cking Identical Twins. Other famous faces in the cast include Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang, and Megan Mullaly.
In other news, now that she's officially back outside following a hiatus after Tory Lanez's trial, Megan Thee Stallion is preparing for her first performance of the year on Friday (March 31). The concert will mark her first time taking to the stage in Houston in several years, and 1501's Carl Crawford sent out a surprisingly warm welcome letter ahead of her concert.
