Montreal’s Skiifall already claimed next-up in 2021 when he dropped off “Ting Tun Up.” The Canadian rapper’s refreshing delivery, which merged the ethos of hip-hop with St. Vincent patois, turned him into one of the most exciting artists in the country. However, it was the subsequent releases that cemented him as a groundbreaking figure. Songs like “Bentayga Dust” proved to be just as riveting, which eventually led to the release of WOIIYOIE TAPES Vol. 1.
It’s been nearly two years since his last EP dropped but he’s unveiled an abundance of music since. Now, he’s finally readying the drop the second volume in the WOIIYOIE TAPES with the release of his new single, “Yuteman Denis.” The rapper’s forthcoming effort boasts appearances from Charlotte Cardin and his mentor, Zibz for a lowkey, ethereal banger that sets the tone for what he has in store for his next project. Skiifall experiments with his flows and vocal range for the record, as well, and it seems like WOIIYOIE TAPES Vol. 2 might find him further exploring new sounds.
Skiifall Debuts “Yuteman Denis”
As usual, the “Bloodclarrt Business” star teams up with his go-to producer, Yama//Sato along with Da-P, Doom, X and DayHills. Together, they lead the record with a euphoric vocal sample and delicate R&B vocals, thanks to Charlotte Cardin. However, when Skiifall leaps into the record with a defiant energy that captures his resilience and the political undertone of his forthcoming project, specifically the relationship between law enforcement and the Black community. “It’s always been important for me to talk about because I get stopped all the time,” Skiifall says. “It’s so scary, that moment when you’re surrounded by these cops and you don’t know what they are going to do.”
As “Yuteman Dennis” provides a glimpse of his 2023 run, Skiifall’s upcoming project will find him expanding on the unique sound he first introduced. Recorded between Montreal and Los Angeles, WOIIYOIE TAPES Vol. 2 will include production from DJ Dahi and Wondagurl. So far, he hasn’t revealed any features on the project. Hopefully, that information arrives soon. For now, check out his new single, “Yuteman Dennis” ft. Charlotte Cardin and Zibz. WOIIYOIE TAPES Vol. 2 drops on April 28th.
