Whether you’ve realized it or not, Rexx Life Raj has been having himself a pretty big year in 2017, working with the likes of Russ, P-Lo & G-Eazy to name a few, and thankfully he doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon either. Following last month’s video for “Radio” & last week’s record “IDFWN,” the rising Berkely rapper decides to come through today and share another new song called “Freedom Love,” featuring R&B singer Goapele, who ironically just released a remix to his “Secret” record with Rex Life Raj last week.
Going in over production from Kyle Betty, Rex slows things down here and delivers an airy, slow jam that finds him crooning about relationship issues and what is meant to be will be. Meanwhile, Goapele comes in for the second verse and shows off her high pitched vocals, effortlessly singing about “real love” in the process. It’s the perfect song for anyone going through a break up to say the least.
“I used to fall asleep with ‘Closer To My Dreams’ on repeat so having actual music with Goapele almost feels like I never woke up,” Raj says. “So if I am dreaming, please don’t wake me up, bb. Kyle Betty and I had been working on this track and were looking for the perfect feature. I wanted a warm, female voice but didn’t know Goapele at the time. A few weeks later I noticed that she had followed me on Twitter, which blew my mind, so I reached out to her and voilà. She gave it exactly what it needed plus more. I’m forever grateful.”
