Few authors have as much material to pull from as Stephen King. His books have been turned into classic films like The Shining and Shawshank Redemption (among many others), and Hulu is looking to tap into that well of creativity. They’ve partnered with Stephen King himself and director/producer J.J. Abrams for a new show called Castle Rock.
If you’ve read any Stephen King books before, you probably recognize that name – it’s the fictional Maine town where many of King’s stories take place. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the show will “weave together characters and themes from those novels that use the Castle Rock location.”
Stephen King is first and foremost a horror/thriller writer, so this show seems to be Hulu’s effort to catch up to Netflix’s runaway success Stranger Things. With this much talent attached, maybe they can give Netflix a run for their money. J.J. Abrams hasn’t missed in a while; he’s recently worked on HBO’s Westworld, Star Trek and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Check out the teaser below, which references many of Stephen King’s most popular works.
