Joe Exotic, the subject of the hit Netflix docuseries, The Tiger King, wants to run for president. This is despite the fact he is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence. Sometimes, the truth can be stranger than fiction.
While this sounds like some kind of joke, Joseph Maldonado-Passage promised on his official campaign webpage when it was first put up that this is not some joke. He is completely serious. He also mentioned Carol Baskin, the woman that he tried to have killed. However, that initial post that does not seem to be up anymore. The way that the post was written made it sound like he believed the world was out to get him. That is probably the reason why it is no longer available.
Joe Exotic's politics
Exotic's political history is not that strong. He had tried for a long-shot presidential candidacy in 2016 but obviously failed. Exotic also tried and failed to become governor of Oklahoma. He is probably hoping that his newfound fame from Netflix will meme him up to victory, just like Trump. Joe Exotic identifies as a Libertarian. His platform involves radical changes to the country, such as only having sales taxes and making social security optional. To substitute the loss of taxes, he wants to make an immigration tax like how they do it in Belize. Gun control is only lightly touched on. Exotic thinks that the age limit to buy them should be increased to 21 and gun-related crimes have a bigger punishment than those without guns.
He also wants to put term limits on federal judges, U.S. attorneys senators, and representatives. This is part of the prison and criminal justice reform that he is suggesting. For his prison reform, he wants to expand their living quarters so that it is more 7'x12' and to make prison food meet nutritional guidelines. His criminal justice reformation is to tear it from the root and rework the entire system. Exotic wants people to go to prison only if there is hard evidence against them. He also wants to change public defendants into private lawyers in rotation. Exotic wants to change it so that they are paid more or less by the government depending on if they win or not.
