Earlier this week, Portland Trailblazers star Damian Lillard, who goes by the alias Dame D.O.L.L.A in the music world, was out in NYC doing a press run to promote his upcoming album Confirmed which is dropping October 6th. While visiting Sway In The Morning the other day, Dame decided to give them the green light to debut the project’s first single “Run It Up” featuring Lil Wayne, which has officially now surfaced on all streaming services today (9/22) after leaking online.
Going in over production from Scott Storch, Dame shows off his slick flow & lyrical wordplay, rapping about the hustle and “running” up the check, while Weezy helps with the chorus and handles the second verse referencing wanting a thot and sipping syrup [lean] again. I” want a thot, I want a model with a bubble butt/ A double cup of some codeine and my slushy slush” Weezy spits in his verse.
“After the first song we did for my [last] album, he liked it so. In between that time and this album he had been sending me songs. So we got a number of songs we did together from my first album till now” Dame says talking about how the collab came about with Lil Wayne. “We kinda just bounced ideas off each other for a little bit, but it was cool. It was cool just to see him work,” he added. “I kinda felt like I had arrived as an artist.”
As mentioned by Dame (above) this isn’t the first time these two superstars joined forces together on a song either. Last year, Weezy assisted Dame on the song “Loyal To The Soil,” but it was unfortunately removed from Dolla’s album due to a presumed dispute with Cash Money.
