Any child born in the 1990s has some fond memories of Power Rangers, since the show went through an impressive number of iterations (ninjas, turbo, the list goes on) throughout the decade. Now that 80s and 90s babies have come of age, Hollywood is back with a new Power Rangers film for the CGI era.
The trailer gives a rough outline of the storyline, which seems pretty standard for most revival movies these days. Five self-described “screw-ups” discover an alien space ship, which sends them on their way to becoming the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Bryan Cranston plays the hologram Zordon. Eventually a big baddie appears the the quintet of teenager have to pull out all the stops to prevent global destruction.
Similarly to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, it’s a bit shocking to see the Power Rangers and their giant vehicle “Zords” as CGI creations instead of people in costumes on a miniature set. Will it be the same?
The movie releases on March 24, so we’ll have to wait a couple months to know for sure.
