42hrs spreads some more sweet West Coast vibes with his new single.

24hrs is fast becoming one of the names most associated with that dreamy, sun-soaked California vibe in hip-hop music. The young West Coaster has ascended rapidly through the ranks in the music game, releasing impressive solo projects as well as some music with his blood brother, rapper Madeintyo. His idiosyncratic take on crafting obtuse lyrics and enveloping them in dense layers of auto-tune has given him one of the genre's more distinctive sounds. Now, the emcee has returned with a brand-new single called "Like Basketballs," a psychedelic trip into strip club hilarity that will have his fans identifying with his signature stylings on this record.

The production by Slick LaFlare is suitably dreamy, taking a page out of Good Kid, m.a.a.d city-era Kendrick Lamar and letting the detached, spacey groove lift this track into the clouds, floating it on some other plane that defies total scrutiny. In fact, with these kind of comedic lyrics, it's a good thing that seriousness is kind of checked at the door here. 24hrs raps about a great night he had at the strip club, which featured p***y "so wet [he's] swimming in it," as well as women who are able to bounce their butts like "basketballs." It's constructed for a laugh to be sure, but those kinds of oddly satisfying visualizations of topics and scenes often spoken about on rap records give this song a fresher outlook than most stripper anthems do.

The same kind of thing used to happen to T-Pain on the regular, where he infused his tracks with out-there studio effects to give his performance a completely different vibe, which is something that 24hrs might be explicitly borrowing from. I'm not sure if it's super memorable, but given that the song goes down less-traveled paths in terms of the individual elements that make up the song, it's a listening experience that's never a boring one.

Quotable Lyrics

I'm throwin' this money
I'm watching it fall
She bouncin' that ass
Like basketballs
