Russ has been back to his old tricks lately, gifting fans with a flurry of releases in the span of just a few days. Kicking things off with “Think Twice,” he’s gone on to deliver on the tracks “Prosper,” and “Maybe." taking a break from his self-producing streak, Russ recruits Scott Torch to handle all the production on each cut, and he’s keeping the trend going with his latest offering “Wife You Up.” This time around you can also catch the multi-faceted John Mayer blessing the tracks with his own work on the guitar. No vocals this time, but any appearance from Mayer is always appreciated.
On “Wife you Up,” the subject matter doesn’t veer much from Russ’s typical expressions of affections for a special someone, showing his appreciation for the one girl that was with him from the jump, and saw it all through his budding career as he vows to give up running around with other women for her sake.
“You was tryna know me / When they didnt know me / Girl we fell in love we both worked at the mall / Way before the rollie / You was just my homie / You were tryna love way before I had it all,” the Atlanta-bred rapper doles out.
While "Prosper" and "Maybe" featured a much more bouncy atmosphere in both production and lyricism, "Wife You Up" pairs up with this series' opener "Think Twice" as it adopts a much more downtempo approach in delivery.
Most recently, Russ has been enjoying the fruits of his long-running labor after taking home a Gold plaque for his There’s Really A Wolf debut album after selling the equivalent of over 500,000 unites and a Platinum plaque for his “What They Want” single once it reached the 1,000,000 benchmark.
Quotable Lyrics
All eyes on me but you loved me when I only had 7 views
You lookin like I should go half on a baby with you
And if I'm wrong I won't debate it with you
I'll own up to it
You voluptuous
They not down for the curves but I'm up to it
Come gimme all that
You the only girl I'll call back
I tell these other women fall back
