There are reportedly three bidders looking to purchase the Miami Marlins, including a Derek-Jeter led group which has placed a $1.2 billion bid and is considered the front-runner to buy the team from owner Jeffrey Loria.
According to the New York Post, Jeter's group, which now includes Michael Jordan, has presented the closest offer to Loria's asking price of $1.3 billion.
The report suggests Jordan is kicking in very little cash, although Jeter sees MJ as a role model in how to become a successful sports executive. Jordan is just one of about 15 investors in the Jeter camp bidding for the Marlins.
Loria and the Marlins are not expected to name a winner of the auction by tonight's All-Star Game in Miami, though everything is expected to come to a conclusion next week, according to the Post.
